MY NYC
Over the past weekend, I got the chance to try out the new next gen car2go. I had previously spotted them around Brooklyn and always thought they were super cute and fun and wanted to see just how convenient and easy to use they are. I knew I wanted to spend the weekend visiting some of my favorite places in the city and wanted a convenient way to do that.
For those familiar with NYC streets, the biggest downside of owning a car is the time and money spent on parking. It’s near impossible to find a spot in most of Manhattan and Brooklyn and parking costs are sky high. Which is why car2go made a lot of sense. Pick up a car anywhere through the app and drop if off when done. No going to a specific parking lot and then having to rush to drop it off at a specific lot.
Because I’m often in an SUV, my biggest concern was the smart car size. I was worried that I wouldn’t feel safe or secure, that it would be too tight, cramped and and not enough legroom. Boy was I wrong. The next gen was surprisingly roomy and not just that- at no point while driving did I feel like I was in a small car, it felt very much live a full size car. I was only reminded when I turned around to see the back space or when I exited vehicle. On every exit, I would again be surprised by how small it is on exterior cos it didn’t feel that way while riding. Additionally, my fave part was despite having over 6 stops in the city, not once did I struggle for parking. I could literally squeeze into spaces that most cars won’t even dream of attempting. Twice I drove away from perfectly adequate spots cos I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that I could fit the car into the space.
I had no intention of writing a full on review as I didn’t have to but I really enjoyed every minute of the experience. Now I get why they love these small cars so much in Europe. Below are some snaps from my weekend in the city.
