STAY NEWPORT: GILDED
I love to get away. Long trips, weekend trips, day trips. I love them all. Unlike our European counterparts, the American vacation schedule is often quite limited and one has to get creative in order to fit in the required dose of yearly travel. I have lived in New York for over 18 years now and it actually took a long time for me to realize just how many amazing places I was only a drive away from. Now that I know better, I have been making the most of my weekends, especially those long Holiday ones to explore more destinations along the East Coast.
Newport, Rhode Island has become a must in the Spring and Summer months for me. From the historic Mansions, to the excellent shopping by the harbor, to the sailing tours and sunset cruises and the food- oh the seafood… there’s loads to do in Newport. Surprisingly though, there weren’t a lot of places that I actually wanted to stay at. My last 2 trips to Newport, I actually stayed at Hotels in Providence (see the Dean). So, I couldn’t be happier to discover The Gilded,a hotel after my own heart. Such attention to design and detail, the colorful decor, the whimsical touches, so well suited for Newport, modern but not too much, a throwback feel but not old fashioned. Quite simply perfect.
A small but adequate example of just how with the times the Gilded is, we were welcomed with a fully loaded iPad that had all the information we could possibly need on events, restaurants, shopping etc. It was like having our very own personal guide and itinerary planner.
Our room was very well assigned and decorated. Super comfortable bed that made it hard to get up and out in the morning. That’s why I love staying at smaller and boutique hotels, great care is taken in each room and we didn’t want for anything. Did I mention it was super clean as well which is a must but not always a given.
Another favorite touch was the complimentary breakfast that had me overly instagramming instead of eating- every morning’s spread was a beautiful visual assault on my eyes and even better in my belly. Great care was taken to serve dishes that weren’t only healthy but also delicious. I’m not always an overly enthusiastic reviewer but this was really one of my fave stays and I’m happy to have found my go to place whenever I’m next in Newport (which is generally once or twice a year).
