Sourced and Handmade in Ghana

First spotted on FLY, I was immediately intrigued by the sustainable women's line Afia.  I quickly devoured the entire contents of their blog which tells the story of a dream of a few which has now become a reality that employs and supports women of the village of Kpando, Ghana.

I was even more excited when I found out that the collection was going to be available for sale for the first time at the Guilded Studio in NYC from 11-7p on May 6-8th and 12-15th .  I saved it on my calendar, I took a screenshot of the event info and really just wanted to check out the line in person.  Somewhere between the rain, movie-going, bumming and house cleaning, it completely slipped my mind.  I don't even think my phone reminder came on.  I really hope they have another sale locally but for now it appears they will begin selling online soon.

Also check out AfiaMeghan blog, for Meghan's tales as a "Midwestern suburban obruni (white person)", her words not mine,  travelling and working on this collection in Ghana, and also ultimately why she chose to source and produce her line there as opposed to anywhere else in the world. A witty and smart account.
