I’ve been feeling increasingly drawn to white outfits, case in point, my outfit this week. We all know that no closet is complete without the perfectly flattering LBD. It’s a fashionista’s secret weapon. But many people forget the Little Black Dress’s cousin: the Little White Dress! Much more appropriate for hot summer months, the LWD is a staple in every wardrobe. Of course, it’s a no-brainer to wear your LWD on any given summer day, but just like the LBD, the Little White Dress is also wildly versatile. It’d be a crime not to take advantage of the many ways you can style it!
For a summer full of fresh new looks using one very transformable piece, below are some of the ways you can style your LWD. Though I only listed three occasions, the possibilities are practically endless, so use these tips as a launching board for accessorizing ideas of your own!
1. Sporty touches for the weekend
When you’re running around on weekend days, comfort is often key. Wear a flowy LWD with a shorter hem to keep things playful, then accessorize with contrastingly sporty details to make the outfit even more casual. A pair of sleek sneakers (check the “Top 30” edit on this page) and a cool bomber jacket will totally transform your sweet dress into something a lot more versatile. Finish with a backpack, and you’ve got a look to take you from the grocery store to an impromptu brunch in seconds.
2. A blazer and structured pieces for work and meetings
Unless you’re a teacher or still in school, unfortunately, you still have to go to work in the summertime. Ditch the black blazer for a seasonally appropriate one to layer on top of your LWD. Other structured details like a polished handbag and maybe even a collared button-down peeking through beneath the blazer (see this example) will add a smart factor to a free-formed frock. Since the LWD is a base piece that’s basically a fresh slate, you can take advantage of the clean look and bring poppy colors to the mix that will standout. In the “date night” look here, the stylist added a jade bag and earrings and finished things off with a simple, black stiletto. Jade and black contrast greatly against a plain white dress, giving the outfit an unexpected “wow” factor.
