SOME THINGS CHANGE
I was thinking the other day as to how my wardrobe has changed over the years. It's actually really nice to have been blogging as long as I have, because I have so much of it neatly documented and easy to access. I can go back to the archives and laugh, smile or shake my head at some of my choices.
But I have zero regrets because everything I wore was an accurate representation of the time and space I was in. But it is easy to see those moments where I was trying to be someone else, playing up to what someone else may have told me was cool or trendy.
And that's why I love the space I'm in now. I no longer seek approval and I seriously do not subscribe to any rules around cut, color, pattern, combinations or otherwise.
Case in point- how I style and wear sneakers. I used to think that sneakers dress down an outfit, but actually, the right pair take it up a notch and can really be the standout piece. It should not be news to anyone that Nike has one of the most amazing options in sneakers- but I'm always surprised to find out that some folks only think of Nike in terms of Athletic wear and not as a stylish or fashion-centric option.
I almost don't know where to begin because the options are endless, but let me introduce you (if nothing else) to Nike's Air Max 270 React. I literally got these and wore them the same day and received endless compliments on them, they were quite literally the star of the outfit. And to top it all off, they are insanely comfortable- something I can't say about some of the other shoes I've been wearing around.
I'm not surprised that Nike gets it. They've been making standout pieces in different ranges for years. I am however surprised by the number of folks that are surprised at how stylish these kicks are and those that tell me they would have never considered pairing a floral skirt, a dressed-up dress, with an amazing piece of footwear like the Air Max 270 Nike React (and in my case I always go for the most colorful option in the line).
Moral of the story is- don't listen to me or anyone for that matter. But don't create silly rules about what fashion or style should look or fit like. What else have you been overlooking- let's save that for the next time.
